Kickstarter & P20 Modern

P20 Modern RPG will be developed by Super Genius Games and their goal is to revise and update the d20 Modern SRD, using Pathfinder as a guideline. Super Genius Games are using a site called Kickstarter to fund the project. P20 only has 30 days left to reach its goal of $70,000. So if you’re interested, head on over and get in on the ground floor.

Why Pyres?

Some of you may be wondering why this font of knowledge I have created is called Pyres of Vam. I hope that you have figured out the “Vam” part of it. I have at least that much faith in humanity. However, I would forgive you for questioning the “Pyres” aspect. I humble and honour you now, by sharing part of my great saga with you, my loyal and subservient followers.

Diaspora: PDF Release

Diaspora is a hard science-fiction roleplaying game (using the FATE system). I’ve never run or played any science-fiction roleplaying games, but I’ve heard that Diaspora is well worth a look. It’s now available in PDF form for less than $15, so there’s no excuse not to check it out. You can grab Diaspora from RPGNow or Lulu (where you can also get it in print).

Paizo’s RPG Superstar 2010 Has a Winner!

Congratulations to fellow Australian Matt Goddall for his winning proposal for the 2010 RPG Superstar contest, held annually by Paizo. Check the Paizo blog for the official announcement. Matt’s proposal beat out the very tough competition and he will now go on to write his module, entitled Cult of the Ebon Destroyers, to be published by Paizo under the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game system in January 2011.

Tarsis – Goddess at the Gate

I’ve recently been thinking about threshold or liminal gods. It’s a strange concept to have an entire god – or several – dedicated to doorways. However, liminality also refers to being “between” places, times or states. I have created Tarsis – Goddess at the Gate – as an attempt to create a coherent threshold deity for use in roleplaying games. I’ve also included rules for using Tarsis with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game and with Savage Worlds. If you find this article interesting, I suggest reading up about Hecate, who Tarsis is heavily based upon.

Reusing NPCs

I was reading this post about reusing NPCs over at the Spirits of Eden and I realised I had a lot more to say than could fit in a comment. So I’ve been inspired to write my own post on the topic.

I find that my players become very intrigued when they encounter an NPC who has been through some noticeable change since the last time the players saw them.

I’ve been using the same RPG world since I started running games, but legends of the PCs’ adventures live on and so do some NPCs…

Open Game Table Vol. 2 – Call for Artists

Minigames: Knifey-Dicey

I recently had an NPC ask a PC if he’d like to gamble, but I hadn’t thought of the game they would play. Before I knew it I was saying in character as the NPC: “So, have you ever played… knifey-dicey?” On the spot, we came up with some quick rules for this two player minigame.

WHAT YOU'VE GOTTEN YOURSELF INTO

Pyres of Vam is run by Mockingbard and his alter-ego(maniac) Vam. It focuses on tabletop roleplaying but you'll find other things here too.

Mockingbard loves roleplaying, worldbuilding and stories. He posts setting ideas, session recaps, gamemastery tips and the like for fun, for himself and to get his creativity on.

Vam posts from the villain's point of view: debunking monster myths, providing adventure ideas for villains, and helping fellow villains and dastardly GMs deck out their lairs and complicate the lives of filthy adventurers.

We write this stuff because we like it :) Hopefully you'll find something you like here too.
