New Lookouts Comic

Penny Arcade have posted a brand new comic in the fantasy world of the Lookouts! I was just talking about it again with my wife this weekend. I love what the guys did with this setting the first time round – it’s very evocative and has been really well reaslised, especially considering that it was originally just a joke – “fantasy boyscouts” (it’s worth listening to their podcast where they discuss the idea, if you want some background). Gabe’s art is excellent, and this is just the start of a series of six new Lookouts comics. Click here to check out the first of these new comics.

Nevermet Press Monster MashUp Contest

Nevermet Press’ Monster MashUp Contest involved checking out an illustration of a new monster and writing a backstory, narrative or description to go with it. Public voting has now begun on the entries – and there’s a lot of great ones! So get your votes in before May 7th. After that, the top three entries will be judged by a panel and prizes will be awarded. I had a crack at it, producing Entry #25.

Dungeons & Doomsday

I’m very new to Reddit and I’ve found the /rpg community really friendly, open and informative so far. One of the more interesting reddits I’ve been reading asked the question “Why are there so many Dungeons?”. Lots of great answers were provided and the reddit is well worth a read. I have another motive for this posting though: my comment thread about the ancient evil masterminds who built all my world’s dungeons to take refuge in before detonating an alchemical nuke to destroy the world.

Demonsea: Delphina’s Womb

Delphina’s Womb is an island made up of a labyrinthine series of natural stone arches somewhere off the Darbrish coast. These arches are large enough that even the largest ship can easily sail through them. Delphina’s Womb is a place where truth, direction and vision are born.

Ships sailing through the twisting tunnels of the rocky island are tugged, guided and buffeted by strange currents. Captains who hold a question in mind while traversing Delphina’s Womb are said to emerge facing the direction in which they can find the answer.

Vampires

You humans are fascinated by vampires. You romanticise these creatures of the night. Yet, what do you really know about them? In this article I will gift you unenlightened plebs with a brief glimpse at the full breadth of vampire kind. Perhaps then you will treat them with the terror they deserve.

Dresden Files RPG Instant Content Preorder

Get excited, people! Evil Hat is now allowing preorders of the Dresden Files RPG. Best part about this is that it is an “instant content” preorder, which means that as soon as you preorder, you get access to the nearly-complete PDFs (I’m downloading them as I type) rather than waiting for the physical books which go on sale on June 23rd. So get your preorders in for what is sure to be a fantastic game. I’ll post my thoughts after I have a good read of these long-awaited tomes.

WHAT YOU'VE GOTTEN YOURSELF INTO

Pyres of Vam is run by Mockingbard and his alter-ego(maniac) Vam. It focuses on tabletop roleplaying but you'll find other things here too.

Mockingbard loves roleplaying, worldbuilding and stories. He posts setting ideas, session recaps, gamemastery tips and the like for fun, for himself and to get his creativity on.

Vam posts from the villain's point of view: debunking monster myths, providing adventure ideas for villains, and helping fellow villains and dastardly GMs deck out their lairs and complicate the lives of filthy adventurers.

We write this stuff because we like it :) Hopefully you'll find something you like here too.
