Free Exclusive Apocalypse World Character Playbook

This is too good to not post. You should be backing Joshua A.C. Newman’s Human Contact, a hard science fiction roleplaying game about what happens when a rationalist, free, democratic society explores its universe and finds others that have different values than it has. It deals with those interactions on both a personal and societal level. It will be awesome, but there is now another incredibly cool reason to back the project.

Any current backers and anyone else who backs the project before time runs out in 18 days will receive a free exclusive Apocalypse World character playbook written by Vincent Baker. The character is called the Quarantine. Here’s a run-down:

The Quarantine has been locked away, suspended in ignorance of the outside world, throughout the Apocalypse. But his ignorance is nothing compared to what he knows: he remembers what came before and knows what caused it.

Not that it will help him.

If that doesn’t sound good, then you probably haven’t read Apocalypse World. If it does sound good, get over to Kickstarter and back Human Contact. It’s shaping up to be a great game and now you get a cool supplement for another great game, too. You can’t lose.

Aruneus – Zombie Apocalypse Meets High Fantasy

Aruneus is a campaign setting being developed by Ben over at Troll in the Corner and using the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game rules. It’s a high fantasy world 100 years after the zombie apocalypse. Sounds like a great combination to me! Ben’s using Kickstarter to fund the creation of his setting through Kickstarter but he needs your help. There are some great rewards, too, like having an NPC named after you! Like all Kickstarter projects, Aruneus won’t see the light of day unless it reaches its funding goal: $7000. If you want to read a bit of what Ben’s already written for Aruneus, he’s been posting some of it on his site. So check it out and then head over to the Kickstarter page to get invovled with the project.

Kickstarter & P20 Modern

A little while back I read a post on RPG Bloggers by Doug from Temple Lion. Doug was talking about the patronage model popularised by Wolfgang Baur of Open Design and Kobold Quartlery. He linked to a site called Kickstarter where individuals, groups or companies can get people to pledge funds towards their projects. It can be used for anything that needs backers, and there are a few RPG projects on there at the moment. One of the biggest is the P20 Modern Roleplaying Game.

P20 Modern RPG will be developed by Super Genius Games and their goal is to revise and update the d20 Modern SRD, using Pathfinder as a guideline. The beauty of Kickstarter is that you can make a pledge and if their goal is not reached, you aren’t charged. Like any good patronage model, patrons can select from several different levels.

Chip in five bucks to help them out or put in $50 to become a full patron, get access to the design forums where you can provide feedback during the process, and get a PDF and hardback copy of the final book (as well as access to playtest versions) plus your name in the credits as a full patron.

You can also pledge even more and get your book signed, or even have one of the designers hand-deliver the final hardback to you and run an introductory game at your house!

Kickstarter seems like an excellent way to get projects off the ground, whether their big projects by professional game development companies or small indie projects that just need some funding and support.

P20 only has 30 days left to reach its goal of $70,000. So if you’re interested, head on over and get in on the ground floor. Check out the site for other cool gaming or rpg projects too, and if you’re thinking about starting a project consider using Kickstarter to gather funds, fans and support.
