  • Listening to the audiobook of The Passage by Justin Cronin. Slow so far, but very good, and we’re still pre-glowing-vampire-apocalypse.

Worldbuilding using TiddlyWiki

I’ve just started using TiddlyWiki for worldbuilding and it is such an excellent tool that I just had to post about it. If you haven’t heard of it, it is a free downloadable and portable personal wiki that can be used offline.

I love worldbuilding, but the problem with that is that I just want to keep on building. I get an idea and make a setting, then I have another idea that doesn’t fit with the setting we’re now using, or a sci-fi device while we’re playing fantasy, or something else that just doesn’t fit. So, I write it down for later. Using a basic Word document is fine, but it is static. Using a wiki allows you to link anything to anything else.

Fever Dreams – Entertainment Built on Pyres

Today I’m happy to announce the launch of Fever Dreams, the new game publishing arm of Pyres of Vam. Nobody here at the Pyres is a professional game designer, and we like making up fluff more than crunch. Nevertheless, we’ve got some ideas and thanks to the miracle of the Intertubes, we can publish stuff for free!

We’ve already announced our first product: ZILLA!

You’ll notice our shiny new Fever Dreams logo on the right there. It’ll sit happily in our sidebar from now on. You can click it to get to our games and other offerings. We won’t be churning out games, but from time to time something new will pop up.

Enjoy, and catch the fever!

Monster MashUp Winners

Congratulations to Jarrod Camiré for his excellent winning entry to Nevermet Press’ Monster MashUp contest (and congrats to the three runners up, too). I’m glad I entered, and this is actually one of the entries I hoped would win. I have a soft spot for Hecate these days, since my post about the goddess Tarsis.

Monster MashUp Contest Update

Sadly, Nevermet Press had to temporarily close the voting for their Monster MashUp Contest due to “widespread voting fraud”. Thankfully, they’ve found another online venue and voting has begun anew. However, the voting is now only open to those who submitted entries and Nevermet Press content developers. Despite most of you not being able to vote, you should still check out the listing of the entries for inspiration for your games. My entry is Entry #17, if you’re interested.

Nevermet Press Monster MashUp Contest

Nevermet Press’ Monster MashUp Contest involved checking out an illustration of a new monster and writing a backstory, narrative or description to go with it. Public voting has now begun on the entries – and there’s a lot of great ones! So get your votes in before May 7th. After that, the top three entries will be judged by a panel and prizes will be awarded. I had a crack at it, producing Entry #25.

WHAT YOU'VE GOTTEN YOURSELF INTO

Pyres of Vam is run by Mockingbard and his alter-ego(maniac) Vam. It focuses on tabletop roleplaying but you'll find other things here too.

Mockingbard loves roleplaying, worldbuilding and stories. He posts setting ideas, session recaps, gamemastery tips and the like for fun, for himself and to get his creativity on.

Vam posts from the villain's point of view: debunking monster myths, providing adventure ideas for villains, and helping fellow villains and dastardly GMs deck out their lairs and complicate the lives of filthy adventurers.

We write this stuff because we like it :) Hopefully you'll find something you like here too.
