Some of you may be wondering why this font of knowledge I have created is called Pyres of Vam. I hope that you have figured out the “Vam” part of it. I have at least that much faith in humanity. However, I would forgive you for questioning the “Pyres” aspect. I humble and honour you now, by sharing part of my great saga with you, my loyal and subservient followers.

Mockingbard likes to think of me as his alter-ego, as if he were the centre of the universe. No. Just because I currently inhabit his body – and can sadly not disentangle myself from it – that does not mean that I am a part of him or that he is the greater part of our union.

You see, I am cursed. It was thousands of years ago. I do not wish to go into the details at this moment. It was a difficult time for me. Suffice it to say that I was young and arrogant and I tried to conquer the world. And I would have gotten away with it, too, if it weren’t for those pesky kids and their gods. But that’s a long story for another day.

All you need to know now is that I was stopped and my plan failed. I should probably also mention that my plan involved the extinguishing of thirteen sacred pyres spread all across the globe.

Gods being gods, for trying to extinguish the pyres, I was cursed to keep them alight at all times, lest doom be unleashed upon the world. Now, this seems nonsensical, as you all now how much I like doom, and extinguishing the pyres was exactly what I was trying to do, intially. However, the catch here was that this particular variety of doom would torture and destroy my soul. What I really want is for everyone else to suffer as I see fit and for me to rule over them. Those damnable gods knew that being utterly destroyed was the one thing I would never let happen.

As part of my curse, my spirit was made immortal – unable to die, so long as the pyres stayed lit. I was reborn into a new body – but I quickly found that there was someone else in there with me. Another part of my curse: having to deal with humans, and in fact, live as one.

You may think by my story so far that I was human to begin with. But was I? You will have to pry that truth out of me on some other occassion. I will say this, however: if you were born human, dealt directly with monsters and gods, nearly conquered the world, and were then made into an immortal spirit inhabiting the body of hundreds of mortals throughout history as you watch the world die and change around you, would you still consider youself human?

But I digress. I was cursed and my task was a strenuous and all-consuming one. I roamed the world constantly, travelling the land and seas, lighting and relighting the pyres to ensure the safety of the world – or more accurately, of myself.

However, these days, technology has caught up. Now instead of my life being some sort of sick eternal pilgrimage, I simply have a series of webcams and remotely controlled heating plates and electric lighters to keep the pyers ablaze. Additionally, I have built sturdy windbreaks and bunkers around them to keep out meddlers and the elements.

With my life-consuming task now basically automated, I have become bored. I have much more time now to plan how to conquer the world in a way of my choosing that crowns me as king, rather than utterly destroying me.

However, even cursed immortal spirits need hobbies. Hence, this website. Additionally, it serves as a useful vessel to begin my ascension to world domination by allowing me to gather loyal followers such as yourself.

So, I decided to name this bastion of enlightenment Pyres of Vam, in homage to my victory over those who cursed me. I used to be obsessed and driven by the pyres, but now I have the time to be obsessed and driven by Pyres of Vam.
